Best Selling Cars

Here at Fiix, we love auto trends. And as we continue to learn more about industry trends, we thought that you'd find them interesting too! Here are the top 10 best selling cars in Canada, 2016. Send us a message and let us know what you think this list will look like in 2017?

10. Chevrolet Silverado

The classic Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck came in 10th place this year, selling 44,932 units - a small decline from sales last year. The pickup truck market had tough competition this year, with both the F series and Ram getting significant upgrades in their 2016 model. Next year, Chevrolet intends to add multiple technology features, as well as an all-new front-end design.

9. Toyota Corolla

A mainstay on this list, there were 45,626 Toyota Corolla units sold in 2016 - barely edging itself over the Chevrolet Silverado. The Toyota Corolla has managed to remain relatively unchanged between now and 2014, but next year, new safety features are being added which may affect the number sold.

8. Ford Escape

There were 46,661 Ford Escape units sold in 2016, with its sales moving very little from 2015. The Ford Escape had a bad year compared to its biggest competitor, which you’ll see at #6. As the SUV space becomes more and more competitive, Ford better step up their game - or the Escape will remain where it is or suffer.

7. Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra is a mainstay of the mid-sized sedan category, and 2016 was a good year for it. Sales increased 2.4% to 48,875. Moreover, the Elantra is getting a full redesign in 2017, which may help increase sales. It is by far the most popular Hyundai model in Canada, which carries importance for the brand.

6. Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 had a big year, with sales jumping 16.9% to 49,103 units. Toyota sported a fresher look and many other styling tweaks that helped bring the RAV4 to where it is today, although it will face competition from an all-new Honda CR-V hitting the market in 2017 (which did not make this list, unfortunately.)

5. GMC Sierra

51,091 units of the GMC Sierra were sold in 2016. The Sierra was able to beat out the other popular pickup truck, the Chevrolet Silverado by outselling its competitor by almost 5000 units. The Sierra will get minor updates in 2017.

4. Dodge Grand Caravan

As the only minivan to make the list this year, with 51,319 units sold, the Dodge Grand Caravan remains a favourite for majority of Canadian families. Despite the new competition from the Chrysler Pacifica, the Grand Caravan saw an increase in sales of 9.4% from 2015, owing in part from aggressive pricing and attractive financing rates.

3. Honda Civic

As the most popular, single-model car series in Canada for the past 19 years, the Honda Civic retains the top spot with an all-new redesign in 2016. The Honda Civic sold 64,552 units this year, and in 2017, types Si and R will hit the market, hopefully boosting sales.

Honda Civic

2. Ram

Ram sales trailed this year, facing stiff competition from other pickups. Total sales for the Ram 1500 were 89,048 units, a drop of 2.4% from the last year. Ram is going forward with a redesign that is set to hit in 2018, so be on the lookout for updates on the new production model.

1. Ford F-150

The flagship Ford pickup, the Ford F-150, had an all-new redesign this year, and boy did it pay off! Featuring an all-aluminum body, the F-series had sales increase 22.4% to 145,409 units sold. Low financing rates and big incentives may have also propelled the F-series forward in 2016. In 2017, the F-150 gets a small redesign, as well as a new diesel option.
